UPDATE: Coast Guard searches for missing fishermen

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard has ended it's search Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 for two overdue fishermen who were reported missing from a fishing trip in the vicinity of Baptist Collette, La., Friday.  

At approximately 1 p.m., Saturday the Coast Guard received a call from the director of the Red Fish Championship reporting that he had made contact with the missing fishermen via cell phone and that they were being towed by a Good Samaritan vessel into port in Hopedale, La.  The fishermen were found in the vicinity of Delacroix, La. No injuries have been reported. 

The Coast Guard launched the following assets for the search:

  • a HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from air station New Orleans
  • a HU-25 jet and crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.
  • a 41-foot response boat and crew from station Gulfport
  • a 33-foot response boat and crew from station Venice
