| PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Adm. Thad W. Allen, Commandant of the Coast Guard, and Vice Adm. Vivien S. Crea, Vice Commandant, present Virginia Beach Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf the Coast Guard Distinguished Public Service Award for her partnership with the Coast Guard at the 2008 Coast Guard Innovation Expo Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008. This award, the highest public recognition that the Coast Guard may award other than the gold and silver lifesaving medals, is granted for extraordinary coordination and cooperation in matters pertaining to the Coast Guard's responsibilities.
