U.S. Coast Guard rescue crew medically evacuates ill man from Midway |
|
HONOLULU — U.S. Coast Guard air crewmembers transferred a 35-year-old man from Midway Island to Oahu Thursday morning. Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center personnel, based in Honolulu, received a call Tuesday at 9:39 p.m. from the captain of the 588-foot vehicle carrier Nippon Highway, located 500 miles north of Midway, concerning a crewmember who was experiencing stomach pains. The Coast Guard diverted the vessel to Midway Island so air crews could transfer the man for medical aid. A Coast Guard C-130 search plane crew from Air Station Barbers Point flew to Midway and picked up the ill man at approximately 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. Air crewmembers then transported the man to Air Station Barbers Point where emergency medical services personnel met the plane and then escorted the man to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. NOTE: Imagery is not available. For more information regarding the Coast Guard rescue, call Petty Officer 3rd Class Luke Clayton at 808-535-3230. |
