Honolulu woman honored in Washington, D.C., for
service as U.S. Coast Guard civilian employee

HONOLULU — A Honolulu woman was honored Thursday in Washington, D.C., by the Secretary of Homeland Security for her work as a civilian employee for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Uaaree Matsuda serves as the executive secretary for the Fourteenth Coast Guard District Commander and was recognized for her work with foreign, federal and local dignataries and her management of the office of the senior Coast Guard officer in the Central and South Pacific.

"I'm very honored to be recognized like this," said Matsuda, who was flown to Washington, D.C. by DHS for the ceremony. "I'm very excited to be part of this event."

Matsuda works directly with Rear Adm. Manson K. Brown, who serves as the Fourteenth District Commander.

The fourth annual DHS Awards were presented by Secretary Michael Chertoff at Constitution Hall. Several Coast Guard active duty and Reserve members were recognized, but Matsuda was one of only two civilian Coast Guard employees honored.
