SAN DIEGO COAST GUARD CONDUCTS FOUR
MEDICAL EVACUATIONS THROUGH THE WEEKEND

SAN DIEGO - San Diego-based Coast Guard units responded four medical evacuations this weekend.

  • February 18 - Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call at approximately 12:04 p.m. from the passenger vessel Adventure Hornblower reporting a passenger was feeling severely ill. The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter HADDOCK deployed a small boat to recover the 61-year-old female. She was taken to the Shelter Island Police Dock where and awaiting San Diego EMS ambulance transported her to the hospital.
  • February 18 - Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call at approximately 10 p.m. from the cruise ship Monarch of the Seas reporting a 12-year-old male passenger broke his wrist and needed to be medically evacuated. Coast Guard Station San Diego launched a 41-foot utility boat to recover the patient and his family. They were transported to the San Diego Harbor Police pier where an awaiting San Diego EMS ambulance transported them to the hospital.
  • February 19 - Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call at approximately 12:40 p.m. from the cruise ship Paradise reporting a 5-year-old male passenger hit his head, was vomiting and suffering from equilibrium loss. The USCGC HADDOCK recovered the patient, his mother and the ship's nurse. They were transported to the Shelter Island Harbor Police dock where an awaiting San Diego EMS ambulance transported them to the hospital.
  • February 19 - Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call at approximately 11:45 p.m. from the cruise ship Carnival Spirit reporting a 74-year-old female fell down the stairs and suffered a head injury. Carnival Spirit was 90 nautical miles south of San Diego. Sector SD launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to recover the patient. Once on scene, the Jayhawk crew recovered the patient and hoisted the ship's nurse. They were transferred to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif.
