Coast Guard Responds to Downed Aircraft off Oceanside

SAN DIEGO -- The Coast Guard received a report at 5:11 p.m. this afternoon of a downed aircraft carrying three people a mile and a half off of Oceanside.

Despite thick fog causing low visibility, one survivor was recovered by a Good Samaritan and transferred to Oceanside Harbor Police.  The Coast Guard continues to search for the other two people.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a rescue boat from Station San Diego were launched to the scene to investigate.  The Coast Guard Cutter PETREL is en route to provide support.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
