Charity event on board Coast Guard tall ship Eagle A private Port of Call Reading Party for local children in need will highlight the Handshake Tour 2008 in San Diego. Visitors to the ship will generate the donation of a brand new book for a child in need each time they shake hands with the men and women of the Coast Guard. The children will receive new books to keep; donated by Scholastic, the global children's publishing, education, and media company, take a tour of the ship and read a story with a Coast Guard member. WHAT: A private reading party where local children receive new books donated by Scholastic Inc., take a tour of the ship, and read a storybook with a Coastguardsman. WHERE: On board “America's Tall Ship”, the CGC Eagle 1360 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101 WHEN: Saturday, August 23, 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. WHY: First Book is proud to be the signature charity of the United States Coast Guard. Through this partnership, more than 15 million books have been distributed to children in need and the programs that serve them WHO: Children reading their very own books one-on-one with members of the Coast Guard.
