Coast Guard helicopter crew performs medevac

SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego-based Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew performed a medevac of a 78-year-old woman off the cruise ship Star Princess this afternoon at 2:45 p.m.

The Coast Guard command center received word that the woman was in distress and needed immediate medical attention.  The helicopter crew was immediately diverted to the area 120 miles west of San Diego, hoisted the woman, and transferred her to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., for surgery.
