Coast Guard Recovers Jettisoned Drugs

SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard Cutter Haddock recovered 4971 pounds of marijuana, 160 miles south of San Diego, this weekend.

Following a recent chase of a vessel attempting to smuggle drugs, the Coast Guard marked the location of where more than 100 bales of marijuana were thrown overboard from the vessel fleeing authorities into Mexican Territorial Waters.

The Haddock spent more than 96 hours searching and recovering bales from the water, which later tested positive as marijuana.

The contraband was turned over to the appropriate federal authorities.
