Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship passenger

SAN DIEGO — An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego safely transported a man from a cruise ship approximately 200 miles south of San Diego Monday afternoon.

The Coast Guard received a call from the crew of a cruise ship, Carnival Spirit, at 12:18 p.m., stating a 32-year-old man was suffering from internal bleeding and requesting a medical evacuation. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and determined that a medevac was recommended.

The helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac. Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the man from the cruise ship.

The man was transported to Sector San Diego and transferred to emergency medical personnel.
